Police arrests eight over murder of Governor Ortom’s aide

Not less than eight persons have been arrested in connection with the assassination of
Mr Denen Igbana, the Senior Special Assistant on Security to the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom.

Mr Igbana, who was instrumental to the state government’s amnesty programme, was murdered by unknown gunmen about two weeks ago at his residence in Tionsha area on the outskirts of Makurdi, the state capital.

Residents of the area disclosed that Mr Igbana, mentioned the name of one of the beneficiaries of the state government’s amnesty programme during an altercation with the killers.

Confirming the arrests, the Benue Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Moses Yamu said, “We have arrested eight persons in connection to the murder of Denen. We will make the names of the people public in due course as investigation into the matter is ongoing”.

Yamu also disclosed a senior government official, confirmed by other sources to be the Special Adviser on Special Duties, Arc Joe Kyaagba who worked closely with Mr Igbana on the amnesty programme, has been invited for questioning due to his involvement in the programme.

The PPRO however said the amnesty beneficiary mentioned by the residents has not been arrested.
