Gunmen kidnap lawmaker’s sister in Bayelsa 

The younger sister (Mrs. Seighe Diike),  of a member representing Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency of Bayelsa State at the National Assembly, Mr.
Henry Ofongo, has been kidnapped by armed men suspected to be militants.
The victim was kidnapped, yesterday morning, at Igbomotoru in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state.
Though it could not be ascertained if the kidnappers were members of the rampaging Niger Delta Avengers, but it is said by a witness that the gunmen stormed the riverside town in two speedboats to carry out the abduction.
According to the witnesss, the armed invaders, on getting to the community, shot sporadically into the air to scare away the natives as they made for their victim’s residence, located some distance away from the waterfront.
The victim’s husband was reportedly beaten severely as the gunmen whisked away the wife and disappeared into the creek with their speedboat.
Contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the development, adding that three suspects had been arrested in connection with the abduction.
He said: “We are aware of the abduction of the younger sister of the federal parliamentarian.
“We have alerted our marine and anti-kidnapping units and they have swung into action.”
